President’s Items

New Board Member

We are very excited that Jessica Pickle a new resident in Kingsland will be joining the board next month.

 Costco Extended Warranty for Fridge

Extended warranty for Fridge Maxx Cold MXM2-48R was purchased by Cris for $244.95 which extends the warranty for additional 3 years, Costco warranty 2 years with a total of 5 years.

Calgary Region Airshed Zone (CRAZ)

KCA will participate in CRAZ monitors air quality, educates and engages Calgary and area in learning about air quality. This is offered free to FCC members.

Parents’ Village Calgary Play Group (APVC)

The new Playgroup will meet once a week on Thursdays’ from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. All parents are welcome.

Clean-up Day

Ann, clean-up day coordinator communicated that KCA clean-up day will be held September 8, 2018.

President’s Meeting and Town Hall

Cris attended the second President’s meeting with Jeromy Farkas, February 15, 2017 which was held at Oakridge Community Hall. Approximately, 12 Presidents attended the meeting. Two main discussion topics city snow and pathway clearing and Secondary Suites.

Kerby Centre

Cris will meet with Luanne Whitmarsh the CEO of the Kerby Centre; who are planning to relocate their services and programs to the ‘old Y’ site at Haddon and Heritage Roads.


Treasurer’s Report

Total Banking as of February 22, 2018 – General Account: $46,267.19; Casino Account: $28,552.08

Hall Rentals for February – $4785.00.


MLA Office

Chris Carlile provided a city-wide map of which department is responsible for which pathways. Click on a quadrant to get to a document with each community outlined:

On another note; Jeromy Farkas will ask Council for a referendum on the 2026 Winter Olympic Bid, due to the fact many Ward 11 constituents have expressed to him that they do NOT wish for Calgary to host the 2026 games.


Planning Director

Community Open House and Info Session – Mar 14, 2018 at Community Hall from 6 – 8 pm.

To learn about the Land Use and Development Permit which effects house addresses 7603 – 7619 and house address 7703 – 7 Street SW to facilitate a new seniors’ living development. All residents are welcome to attend. This notification has been published on Facebook February 14, 2018.


Open House and Info Session – Mar 28, 2018 at Community Hall from 6 – 8 pm.

Information session to learn about the Redevelopment of the Market on Macleod site. All residents are welcome to attend. This notification has been published on Facebook February 14, 2018.

Liquor Store rejection on Elbow Dr. was appealed by applicant and hearing is delayed to April

Lloyds Roller-skating site will be occupied by Visions redevelopment is in the works.

Secondary Suites – City council bylaw public hearing decision to simply the secondary suite process will be held in March 12, 2018.

Darren communicated that the eventual demolition of Kingsland Market; there will be a need for better pedestrian and accessible connection between new Trico HQ (Current Kingsland Market location) and Heritage Station. A dedicated walkway to Heritage LRT Station, proper lighting, accessibility ramps for seniors those with mobility challenges, etc.


Hall Maintenance

Ken brought concerns regarding the waste recycling bins are not being utilized properly; educating renters was reinforced.


Casino – Report

Casino update – Kathy Mitchell Coordinator. Cris added this event to Facebook calling for “CASINO VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED” which will be held May 31 and June 1, 2018.


Social Director – Report

Easter egg hunt will take place at the Kingsland hall on Saturday March 31, from noon to 1:30 pm. This event is put on by the Love City Church; and is open to all Kingsland residents. There’ll be hot dogs, drinks, gift baskets and an appearance from the Easter Bunny. This group has rented the hall from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm.

Seniors Lunch & Horticultural Talk – Saturday May 5, 2018; talk at 11:00 am, followed Q&A. Lunch 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

Garage Sale Day – Saturday May 12, 2018 – 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Sign up at Maps will be available at the hall on May 12, 2018.

Trico Liaison

Tina will be attending Trico meeting February 22, 2018.

Membership Report

Cris met with a resident who purchased a membership and volunteered to sit on the board.

Newsletter – Great News Publication

The Kingsland Post was reduced significantly last month. Cris posted on Facebook calling for businesses in Kingsland to call Great News to advertise their business to help with publishing costs.
