At St. Teresa of Calcutta School, we continue to celebrate our French Immersion program with our Carnaval event which took place in February. An event such as this cannot occur without the support of our parent community and Carnaval committee made up with members of our teaching staff. At St. Teresa we continued the tradition of Carnaval with the selection of a Duc and Duchess, King and Queen of Carnaval on the Wednesday. On Thursday, we enjoyed a Folklofolie presentation celebrating our French Heritage and Friday was a day full of fun filled winter activities including a traditional maple syrup station—Caban a Sucre and indoor and outdoor winter activities.
The season of Lent is upon us and students at St. Teresa of Calcutta are reminded during the 40 days of preparation for the Easter season, to exercise their spiritual health much in the same way we exercise physically or mentally. In conjunction with our District Faith Theme ‘Ask and it will be given you.’ (Matthew 7:7) with a focus on prayer, students were reminded to go beyond the usual practice of ‘giving up’ and make an effort to ‘add in’.
During the month of February, students focused on jumping rope to support the Jump Rope for Heart Campaign and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Students participated in Skipping Club during lunch recess to encourage a focus on fitness and healthy choices.
We continue to support special events to raise money for a new playground. Special thanks to our Foundation of St. Teresa of Calcutta for such events as bottle drives and a special evening event in February to support the fundraising process. Special thanks also to our School Council for a family movie night event in January to support educational enhancements in our school. We look forward to the next school council event in March, our family dance.
Progress Reports are sent home in March, marking another opportunity to collaborate with our families to support student success.
