Nitanisak District Girl Guides – April

1750

Our district covers the communities of: Edgemont, Evanston, Hamptons, Hidden Valley, Hanson Ranch, Kincora, Nolan Hill, Sherwood and Sage Hill. We have units for all age groups – Sparks (ages 5-6), Brownies (ages 7-8), Guides (ages 9-12), Pathfinders (ages 12-15) and Rangers (ages 15-17).

Here’s some of the highlights of what we were up to recently.

Our 4th Brownies have had a busy start to the new year. We’ve been focusing on the key to STEM with various nights of science experiments, including building their very own lava lamps and marshmallow launchers! Guider Crista generously spent a night teaching our girls yoga, which they all loved as well! We were very fortunate to be able to visit the Space Port at the airport, where the girls built their own rockets, and invented machines to help them live and work on an imaginary planet. The other highlight of our month was an incredible visit to the Apple store in Market Mall where the girls were taught about coding and were able to code Sphero robots and make them move in patterns. Coming up, we are very excited to head to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in April for a sleepover to learn more about the dinosaurs.

All of our units got out to sell cookies in late March/early April at Edgemont Superstore, Beacon Hill Canadian Tire, and a few other retail locations in our district. Thank you for all of your support in buying cookies from the Girl Guides – an almost 100-year tradition that started in Regina, Saskatchewan!
