UCP Leader Jason Kenney Sworn into Legislature
On January 29th, 2018 Jason Kenney was sworn into the Alberta Legislature by Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell. Mr. Kenney was elected to serve as the MLA for Calgary-Lougheed following the resignation of Dave Rodney last December and will assume the role of Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition. I look forward to working alongside Mr. Kenney in Edmonton in my capacity as Chief Opposition Whip. Welcome to the legislature, Jason!
Kinder Morgan Pipeline
Given the recent action by BC NDP government to restrict the flow of oilsands crude within their province, it’s clear that the carbon tax has not purchased any social license to get Alberta’s product to market. At time of writing, Alberta’s Premier has cut off wine imports from BC in retaliation. Who knows if this will help but it is at least better than the Premier’s early strategy of mocking those, like UCP Leader Jason Kenney, who said that tough words needed to be backed up with concrete action.
Trade between provinces in Canada as per our constitution must always be free. This principal has been poorly defended by a string of federal governments until now we have a national crisis. Let’s hope that Premier follows Jason Kenney’s lead and takes the battle to Ottawa where the issue lives and really needs to be solved. So many Alberta families are depending on this approval that I can think of no more important issue today.
