I returned to the Alberta Legislature on October 30th. Please note that I will be in Edmonton from Monday through Thursday and back in Calgary for Fridays and weekends. My dedicated team will continue to be available to you through-out the week during regular business hours. Your comments, concerns and ideas are welcome!
Through the month of November, I will be participating in a number of Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Calgary and Edmonton. Remembrance Day is observed across all of the Commonwealth of Nations to acknowledge the men and women of our armed forces who have died in the line of duty. A major event in the city, hosted by the Canadian Legacy Project is the Field of Crosses. From November 1st to November 11th Calgarians can attend a formal flag raising ceremony to honour these brave women and men. The Bowness Legion, who celebrated their 70th anniversary in October will also be holding a ceremony on November 11th.
Thank you to those of you who have reached out to my office looking for ways to give back to your community. I am amazed by the amount and variety of charitable initiatives that are popping up in Calgary-Bow this winter. My annual food drive starts in November and goes until mid-December. Non-perishable food items that are collected are donated to the St. Edmunds Church in Bowness. Which is a Calgary Food Bank distribution centre, but is also used for an annual Holiday Hamper service which is distributed locally. You can drop off these food items to my office, or can arrange to have them picked up. In the past two years, we have been able to donate over 200 kgs of food!
WinSport, as part of their “Welcoming Newcomers” initiative, has been collecting winter clothing (hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, jackets and pants) to provide to newcomers from other countries who will be participating in winter sport programs at WinSport. Our office will be collecting items for this drive from October 3rd to November 13th. Please feel free to drop off your gently used items at my office!
